Macron's wax figure Back in the museum: Greenpeace protests loudly!
Paris, Frankreich - On June 2, 2025, a remarkable protest from Greenpeace took place in Paris, in which a wax figure of French President Emmanuel Macron was kidnapped. This campaign was regarded as a form of protest to take a position against France's controversial imports of gas and fertilizers from Russia. The wax figure, which is exhibited in the Musée Grévin, was taken from the museum "without permission", as Jean-Francois Julliard, the managing director of Greenpeace France. He sharply criticized the double standards of the French government in relation to war in Ukraine and the trade with Russia, since France in 2024 was the greatest importer of liquefied natural gas from Russia.
During the protest, Greenpeace exhibited the wax figure in front of the Russian embassy. Activists hung up a sign with the inscription "Poutine-Macron Alliés Radioactifs" in order to draw attention to Macron's contradictory support for Ukraine and at the same time its economic relationships with Russia. Greenpeace is calling for a fundamental reassessment of the relationships and measures to France to Russia, especially in view of the current geopolitical tensions.
return to the museum
After the protest, the wax figure was discovered by police officers in front of the headquarters of the EDF electricity group. The museum director was immediately informed when the figure was in front of the central one. The police took them to the guard, where there was a review by the museum staff. They confirmed that the figure was undamaged before it was brought back to the Musée Grévin. In this context, the museum is expected to withdraw its advertisement that may have been collected against the activists.
Greenpeace activists emphasized that they had carefully handled the wax figure during this campaign and informed the museum director in good time about the return. The kidnapping and return of the wax figure are in the context of global protest movements, which are directed against corruption and political lack of transparency, such as the protests in Egypt and Lebanon, which have arisen out of similar dissatisfaction and are demanding fundamental economic and social rights. These diverse protests show how much civil society in different countries wants to hold political elites.
