Truck fire ensures chaos on the Brenner motorway A13-traffic paralyzed!

Innsbruck, Österreich - On May 19 at 9:50 a.m., the A13 burner highway was significantly impaired by a truck fire. A Ukrainian driver lost control of his vehicle team at the Bergisel Tunnel, crashed into a concrete wall and tipped the trailer on the right side. As a result, a fire broke out, which was quickly deleted by the Innsbruck fire department and the Amras volunteer fire brigade. The driver suffered injuries to an indefinite degree and was brought to the Innsbruck clinic for clarification.

The fire led to the fact that both the truck and its trailer burned out completely and caused considerable damage to the highway towards Italy. The road conditions and a bridge railing that was damaged by the impact were particularly affected.

traffic disruptions and diversions

As a result of the incident, there were significant congestion at the level of the Innsbruck South driveway towards Kufstein. The highway was closed in both directions around 10:00 a.m. Depirtions were set up via Innsbruck in the direction of Italy and the Western Tast of the Autobahn towards Innsbruck. ASFINAG reported that dosage measures were initiated in Kufstein to control the flow of traffic.

around 12:55 p.m. the A13 could be released towards Kufstein after removal of the truck and its trailer. However, the lock towards the south remains because the road is badly damaged.

follow and rescue work

The rescue work of the overturned trailer and the necessary cleaning measures were time -consuming. In this context, it was also found that the truck had lost large amounts of diesel, which required additional cleaning work. In the early afternoon, the direction of Kufstein was opened again in two lanes, while the direction of travel could only be released in a single lane.

ASFINAG assumes that the final removal of the damage and the complete restoration of the road will still need time. Traffic disruptions will continue to be expected in the coming days if extensive repair and security work are tackled.
