Lidl reduces coffee prices by up to 17% - these brands benefit!
From May 29, 2025, Lidl Austria will reduce prices for twelve different types of coffee up to 17 percent. This measure includes both own brands such as "Bellarom" and well -known branded products such as Nescafé Dolce Gusto, Lavazza and Julius Meinl. Lidl covered the costs for the price reduction completely and does not pass it on to the suppliers. This is part of a larger strategy that has led to the price reduction of over 550 items since the beginning of the year. This reports Kosmo .
The price reductions reflect the far -reaching shopping power of the black group and the efficiency of the group's “Bon Presso” roasting. A look at some price examples shows the attractive pricing for customers: The Lavazza Caffè Crema Classico will cost 19.99 euros per kg in the future, which corresponds to a decrease of 14 percent. Bellarom Kaffee Rosso will be available by 9 percent cheaper to 9.99 euros per kg, while Julius Meinl President decreases entire beans for € 11.99 for 500 g. Nestlé Nescafé Classic and Fairglobe coffee are also affected by the price cuts.
market situation and price trends
However, the coffee prices are generally under pressure. According to SWR , raw coffee prices rose by 70 percent compared to the previous year, which has led to an increase in prices for coffee capsules and pads since 2020. In addition, a price increase of up to 30 percent for large packs is forecast for 2025. This presents consumers with challenges because a pound of ground branded coffee currently costs an average of seven euros and could increase to over nine euros. A survey shows that a quarter of Germans consume less coffee due to the price development.
The causes of this increase are complex and include both climatic changes that endanger coffee cultivation in the main production countries of Brazil and Vietnam, as well as increasing demand in aspiring markets such as India and China. This leads to a pressure on the entire industry and could halve the current coffee cultivation areas in the long term, forecast studies.
Lidl positions itself for the future
In this challenging market environment, Lidl succeeds in standing out by introducing price reductions and focusing on their own brands. The company was recently recognized in a study by the "Society for Consumer Studies" as number 1 for "price-performance". Lidl employs around 5,800 people and runs over 250 branches in Austria, with a range of over 2,200 articles, many of which are AMA certified or in organic quality.
