Living chance: typing campaign for stem cell donors in St. Georgen!
In Austria, there is an urgent search for stem cell donors to save lives. On March 1, 2025, a typing campaign takes place in the security center in St. Georgen am Ybbsfelde, which is part of a nationwide initiative of the association "Giving for Life - Leukemiahilfe Austria". Here all healthy people between the ages of 17 and 45 can have a cheek smear carried out free of charge. This simple method enables potential donors for affected patients such as the six-month-old Leonidas, the two-year-old Pia as well as for the 60-year-old Winni and the fireman Michael, as ORF reports .
growing necessity of donations
In a recent example, 58 new potential donors have already been registered in a recent campaign. The personal experience of donors such as Milla Prenner and Peter Jandrasits illustrates the importance of the donation. Both announced that they donated their stem cells without hesitation - decisions that were simple for them but represent a decisive difference between life and death for the recipients. With further typing campaigns in Burgenland, planned on June 7th and 15th, the club continues to do everything possible to enlarge the donor pool and give hope.
