Coalition in danger: only 40% believe in traffic lights!

Austrian politics is on a narrow ridge: After intensive coalition negotiations between the parties ÖVP, SPÖ and the Greens, the uncertainty about the creation of a traffic light coalition increases. According to a survey by Today only 40 percent of the respondents are that this cooperation succeeds. It is particularly striking that the voters of the Greens show the greatest confidence with astonishing 74 percent, although their party would not be represented in this triple constellation. In contrast, the supporters of the ÖVP and the FPÖ believe in believing that the traffic light coalition successfully comes about. For the ÖVP voters, the numbers are less than 50 percent, while the FPÖ supporters are only 20 percent.

new elections as a possible consequence

The skepticism of the voters is also reflected in the considerations for a possible new election. 32 percent of the respondents fear that neither a three nor a coalition of two will come about and that they have to go to election again. This assessment is particularly pronounced among the FPÖ voters, where 52 percent consider such scenarios to be likely. dawum also reports that opinion researchers Peter Hajek predicts a "brilliant election victory" of the FPÖ in the event of new elections. These developments not only throw a shadow on the coalition talks, but also increase the pressure on the parties to agree quickly and to form a government capable of acting.

In the current political climate, the belief in stable government formation seems to be brittle. The voters are skeptical, and the parties face the challenge of reconciling their various interests in order to address the fears of the population against unstable conditions. The outcome of this conversations could have a decisive influence on the political landscape in Austria and the voters present the choice: stability or uncertainty.
