New chairwoman for women's rights: Skubel wants to face violence!

At the district women's conference in the Landgasthof Hafner in Oberdorf, Kathrin Skubel was elected as the new chairman of the SPÖ women Völkermarkt. At a symbolic moment, she received the approval of around 45 delegates and thus succeeds Nicole Riepl, which had initiated projects such as "Stop districts without a partner for overalls" for years. During her tenure, Riepl always emphasized the urgency of protecting women and children from violence, which the new chairman would now like to continue.

Kathrin Skubel announced her vision, focus on women's rights, solidarity and awareness of violence against women. Planned actions include activities for international women's day and the 16 days against violence on women. "Justice begins with women," she emphasized in order to illustrate her determination to create a networked and just future. Your team consists of committed women in the region, including representatives from the municipalities of Völkermarkt, Sittersdorf and Neuhaus, and is ready to accept the challenge.

background to prevention of violence

The problem of violence against women is omnipresent and urgently requires measures. According to the Federal Criminal Police Office, women are particularly often affected by partnership. The causes include not only individual conflicts, but also social conditions that favor violence. Studies show that economic independence has a decisive influence on avoiding violence. According to Springer , economic stress factors can increase domestic violence, which underlines the need for comprehensive support and prevention.

The new initiatives of Kathrin Skubel aim to raise awareness of these critical topics and to increase the existing resources in order to seriously protect women and their children. From now on, the SPÖ Women will actively work under your leadership to establish effective help and prevention measures that are urgently needed in the region.
