Villacher Krampus parade: a festival of customs and security

On Friday evening, Villach turned into a fearsome setting when Krampusse, Perchten and witches marched in to captivate the audience with their creepy masks and impressive appearances. Around 50 groups from different regions such as Bavaria, South Tyrol, Salzburg, Styria and Carinthia were involved and presented their impressive costumes under the motto "Customs connected". This event already marks the 31st Krampus parade in the city, which has been organized by Reinhard Wastl since 2011.

The move started from the Parkhotel on time at 6 p.m. and led through the busy city center. The athletic mask carriers attracted the attention of around 20,000 visitors with dull bell sounds and freezing noises. The participation of four children's groups was particularly remarkable, with the youngest active participant being only four years old. The route extended from 10.-Oktober-Straße to Gerbergasse/corner Freihausgasse, where there was a demasking.

security comes first

Thanks to comprehensive security measures such as the presence of security forces and police officers, there were no incidents to fear that have occurred at similar events in recent years. Organizer Wastl emphasized how important it is that the audience behaves respectfully and adhere to the safety regulations. "It is not allowed to exceed the barrier grids," emphasized Wastl and thus appealed to the reason of the visitors.

The impressive masks and loud bells together ensured a unique atmosphere. It was a festival that significantly appreciates the tradition of the Krampus and brings people together to celebrate and not forget the time -honored customs.
