Bus traffic in danger: Union Vida demands improvements!
The bus drivers in Carinthia face a critical situation: after the failed third round of negotiations on the collective agreement for private bus companies, there is unrest among the approximately 12,000 employees across Austria. The mood is particularly tense in Klagenfurt and Villach, since the Vida union not only demands a fair compensation for inflation, but also fundamental changes to the working conditions. According to the managing director of Dr. Richard is not to be expected in Villach for the time being, but the bus drivers demonstrate on their own free time in their free time, such as ORF Kärnten reported.
Potential failures in bus traffic
The Vida union announces company meetings for Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss the latest developments with the employees. There may be delays and failures in passenger transport. The meetings are scheduled for Tuesday from 5 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. in Villach and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Klagenfurt. "Of course, we are still ready to negotiate, but austerity measures are not an option at the expense of the employees," VIDA state secretary Florian Klengl clarifies, while the union demands essential improvements such as expansion of night and Sunday allowances. The focus is also on the unpaid break, which may be a maximum of one hour, such as Kleine Zeitung reported.
The 1,500 bus drivers in Carinthia are exposed to the pressure of the current negotiations, and the warning signals are clear: the continuing protests could soon lead to noticeable effects in public transport, something that will greatly employ both drivers and passengers in the coming days.
