Serious truck accident in Bad Kleinkirchheim: dramatic rescue operation

A 23 -ton truck, which was loaded with concentrated feed, got off the road on the Zirkitzer Weg and plunged down a steep embankment about 70 meters. Fortunately, the truck stopped in a less steep area, which prevented further damage, because several small trees and a dung heap broke the case.

The driver was injured in the incident, but was able to free himself through the broken windscreen of his vehicle. Residents who noticed the fall immediately alerted the rescue workers. The fire brigade units of Bad Kleinkirchheim and Patergassen as well as the Johanniter accident aid Patergassen were alerted at 1:22 p.m. and arrived at the scene of the accident. The driver received the first medical help on the spot and was then taken to the hospital in Spittal.

A second truck of the company arrived at 4:30 p.m. to suck 9 tons of the concentrate, which created the basis for the upcoming salvage.

The Spittal fire brigade was released at 5:00 p.m., which arrived with a heavy armory. In preparation for the salvage, extensive security measures and a careful selection of the stoppoints were required in order to cope with the high weight of the truck. The fire brigade worked intensively to pull the truck away from the crash site with the help of rope winds and then set it up again.

In addition, two tractors helped with rope winds to support the safety measures. The truck could be erected after successful efforts. A private towing company took over the further orientation of the vehicle for the finally necessary removal. The entire mission was completed at 9:30 p.m.

The salvage campaign was a challenging task both technically and logistically.
