New sea access in Techelsberg: Experience nature on Lake Wörthersee!

On June 3, 2025, a new, free access to Lake Wörthersee was officially inaugurated in Techelsberg. This initiative was presented by Governor Peter Kaiser and governor Deputy Martin Gruber and is part of a comprehensive project to create public lake access in Carinthia. Access is located directly on the popular R4 cycle path and was created in cooperation with the Federal Forests.

As part of this project, an area of around 200 square meters was cut to enable the new access. "Access does not serve as a bathing place, but is a way to briefly relax on the water," said Kaiser. At the same time, the remaining part of the area is used to maintain the bank landscape and protect sensitive natural areas. A fence protects these sensitive zones and promotes the well -being of domestic animal species.

sustainability in focus

To support the local flora and fauna, bat boxes were installed in this area and new habitats for water birds and fish were created. The state of Carinthia and the Federal Forests jointly take care of care and are committed to nature conservation measures. Gruber emphasized the important role of such projects for the quality of life of the residents and the increase in accessibility to the lakes in Carinthia.

Carinthia now offers access to over 1,000 lakes, this for both locals and for holiday guests. The goal here is the design and creation of other free accesses that are realized in cooperation with municipalities, cities and public institutions. This initiative focuses on better leisure opportunities without competing with existing beach baths. The state government's commitment also includes a clear step against the progressive construction as well as the sale of the lakes. Information about the accesses is regularly updated on the homepage of the State of Carinthia to create transparency and to enable interested people to easily access.

In addition to the release of the access in Techelsberg, the bundesforste is also informed on the importance of free sea access. It is pointed out that such measures not only serve the leisure value, but also prioritize the necessary protection of nature.
