Avalium alarm in Kals: temporarily blocked ski area!

Kals am Großglockner, Österreich - On Sunday afternoon there was an avalanche in the Kals ski area on the Großglockner. The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. when a snowboard about 70 meters wide had come loose in the steep terrain at a height of approx. 2,270 meters. The avalanche raced down to the ski slope and spilled it over a length of about 30 meters with a snow height of 20 to 30 centimeters. An search was immediately initiated because it could not be excluded that people were buried. Employees of the Bergbahn and the local mountain rescue units of Kals am Großglockner and Matrei in East Tyrol were involved, as the Krone reported.

intensive search, happy outcome

The search was intensively, whereby the emergency services probed the slopes and the surrounding areas. However, the avalanche cone, which was up to one meter in height, was not a hazard for passing skiers. After around two hours, the all -clear was finally given. No people had been harmed, and the search was surely stopped, as was the Kleine Zeitung reported.

The avalanche exit was triggered by fresh fresh snow, which increased the avalanche danger in the mountains of Carinthia and East Tyrol. Despite the original concerns, the situation could be defused quickly, and a quick intervention by rescue workers ensured that the worst was prevented.
