Failure parking spaces in the Ostbucht: Klagenfurt takes stock
In the popular Ostbucht area, a preferred point of contact for many holidaymakers and locals, there is a significant innovation. Every year, around 930,000 cars are counted that use the appealing environment, including the lido. The city administration has called on the schedule to open up the high frequency of the parking spaces as a possible source of income.
On Tuesday, November 26th, a decision was made in the city senate, which provides for the introduction of parking fees for 992 parking spaces in the eastern Bay area. According to the new concept, 1 euro per hour or alternatively 4 euros per day could be due, which could bring the city to an estimated 1.2 million euros. Payment should be made by means of a familiar parking ticket machine or via cell phone app.
decisive coordination
This fundamental decision was supported by most political parties, including SPÖ, FPÖ and ÖVP. The next steps have already been started: Details on the practical implementation should be worked out, so that the new fees may already apply in the coming summer. This could bring a real change for parking behavior in the region.
The opposition, however, represented by the Carinthia team, brought different perspectives into play. The local mayor party pleads for the owner of a season ticket to be excluded from the new fee for the lido. For this purpose, a press conference will take place on November 27, in which your arguments are to be presented.
Another topic that was discussed in the city senate affects the bilingual classes at the Waidmannsdorf elementary school. This educational institution, which is the only public elementary school in Klagenfurt with a German-English offer, must expect a conversion to a purely English-language class from the school year 2025/26. Educational officer Ronald Rabitsch, also from the SPÖ, plans a resolution to the state government to act against the loss of this number of classes.
In addition, it was decided to continue the digital recording of the urban sewer network. With almost 1000 kilometers in length, which corresponds to a route from Klagenfurt to Berlin, the digital technology enables quick identification and repair of irregularities in the sewer system. This is done by special cameras that descend the lines and digitally evaluate the images.
