Carinthian chocolate test: no increased heavy metals found!
Comprehensive tests of chocolates and cocoa products were carried out in Carinthia to check the content of dangerous heavy metals such as cadmium and lead. A total of 35 products from various transactions in the state were examined. These tests, which were carried out by the Institute for Food Safety, Veterinary Medicine and Environment on behalf of the Carinthia Chamber of Labor, showed that all samples comply with the legal limit values. The head of AK consumer protection, Stephan Achernig, pleased that products with a high cocoa content, such as bitter chocolate, have a higher cadmium content in particular, but are always under the permissible maximum content in accordance with the investigations. In addition to 25 chocolates, a total of two cocoa products from 100 percent cocoa, two drinking chocolates and more were examined. However, the analysis also covered deficiencies in the labeling of four products, including missing or misplaced storage conditions as well as incorrect ingredients. However, this was not considered a serious violation by the Chamber of Labor, so that the manufacturers concerned have already been informed in writing about the defects, as was emphasized in a report by orf Carärnten
important quality controls
AK President Günther Goach emphasized the essential role of the Chamber of Labor when carrying out this independent quality tests, which aims at ensuring consumer protection and information. "It is crucial that consumers can make well -founded purchase decisions," said Goach. The Chamber of Labor does everything possible to prevent potential health risks or deceptions in the food trade. These measures are particularly important for the upcoming Santa Claus, since many people buy chocolate, cookies and other sweets to give their loved ones.
