Inclusion in sports: New project for children from low -income families!

The pilot project "Welcome to the Club" of the Federal Ministry is a strong sign of the inclusion of children from low -income families in Styria, Carinthia and Salzburg. As orf.at , children and adolescents aged 4 to 18, whose parents are financially restricted, receive the opportunity to take part in club activities without having to take care of high membership fees. The ASVÖ and the sports union work together to cover up to 75 percent of regular membership fees and the costs for training camps. In Styria, 44,000 children are currently at risk of being excluded from the vital sports offer.

The initiative should reduce the hurdles for families in sport, reports Manuela Fally from the ASVÖ: "It is important that there is an official way to reduce or delete membership fees." This not only promotes sporting activities, but also the social life of the children concerned. The project is initially limited until the end of the summer semester and applies to registered members of the Sportunion and ASVÖ.
