Inclusion in sports: Carinthian triathlon team sets standards!
An impressive sports project in Carinthia brings people with mental impairments together! Since 2022, around 15 athletes have been offered the opportunity to be trained specifically for triathlon competitions. This is done in cooperation with the specialist department for equal opportunities, the Olympic Center Klagenfurt, the Carinthian Hermits as well as various carrier organizations such as Lebenshilfe and Diakonie, such as klick-kaernten.at
Under the direction of professional trainer Andreas di Bernardo, swimming training takes place every Thursday in the Carinthian Herme, supplemented by runs and bike tours in and around Klagenfurt. In the Olympic Center, health and strength checks help the participants to prepare optimally for their competitions. A special highlight is the "2nd Carinthian Herme Indoor Triathlon" in mid -March, which will follow further competitions a year, as well as kaernten.at reported.
political support and community spirit
The state council was impressed by the motivation of the athletes and emphasized that this initiative also promotes social participation and makes inclusion tangible in Carinthia. Project manager Andreas di Bernardo emphasized the importance of political support, since it is a strong signal if decision -makers actively participate and not just promote. Manfred Hübel, the head of the Carinthian Hermits, also expressed his enthusiasm that a room is created here in which everyone can exercise together.
