Kiwanis Club Hermagor-Wulfenia: Bridge builders for children in need
in Gailtal was launched on August 1, 2019, a special club was launched to support children. The Kiwanis Club Hermagor-Wulfenia has grown and is active, where state aid is often not sufficient. Horst Korenjak, Governor of Carinthia, was the one who launched this club while Alberta Werba became the first president. Waltraud Wieser is currently leading the club, which consists of 25 active women and campaigns for charitable purposes.
The main goal of the club is to enable disadvantaged children to make a better future. This is done through quick and uncomplicated help. "Our women's club distinguishes rapid and unbureaucratic help," explains former president Alberta Werba, who sees a positive impact on the community. The Kiwanis Club has organized numerous events since its foundation to collect donations that are used exclusively for charitable purposes.
activities and support
The club year from October 2023 to October 2024 has already started with a variety of support campaigns. For example, a group of children and adolescents who participate in hippotherapy received annual support of 2000 euros. This ensures that this therapy is still possible because it is of great importance for many of the small participants.
In addition, a seriously impaired child was helped with 2000 euros for a necessary pain therapy, which is intended to significantly improve his quality of life. On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Musikmittelschule Hermagor, the school's club provided 1000 euros for new musical instruments, which promotes the musical training of the students. Another initiative of the club includes the provision of 300 warning vests for beginners to increase their safety in road traffic.
Subsequently, children who have to deal with special challenges are also helped. For three children with motor or cognitive difficulties, judo courses were financed, which are of great importance for the development. The 240 euros support enable these children to participate in the courses. In addition, an amount of 1,100 euros was collected for the victims of the severe weather disaster in Lower Austria, which is increased by 30 percent by Kiwanis Austria.
events for a good cause
The ladies of the Kiwanis Club organized various pleasant events this year that not only was fun, but also served the good cause. In February they offered a champagne bar at the carnival in Hermagor, and in March they were active at the Easter market and the spring awakening. A highlight was the Happy Children Day, which took place in the HLW Hermagor in July.
In the same month, a blues brunch took place, which was very well received by the visitors. In September, the members of the club introduced themselves together with the Kiwanis Club Gailtal in Möderdorf Castle. Charity events such as the play "Paolo Santonino" in the Hermagor town hall were preceded by this. October brought another highlight with a charity concert by pianist Matej Dzido and the singer Silke Zöckler, who touched the hearts of the audience.
For the coming year, a concert is expected with the internationally renowned opera singer and Bariton Markus Werba, which will present Schubert songs. There is hope that people in the Gail, Gitsch- and Lesachtal will continue to visit these events to support the children in their region and to promote the valuable work of the Kiwanis Club Hermagor-Wulfenia.
