Alcoholized driver after an accident in Kötschach in court!

On December 25, 2024, two serious traffic accidents occurred in the Hermagor district, which caused crying out in the region. At 10:20 a.m. there was a tragic collision on the B111 Gailtal Straße in St. Paul in the Gailtal. A 76-year-old man from the Villach-Land district suddenly turned left into the center of town, which led to a collision with a vehicle that was directed by a 24-year-old man from the Hermagor district. The 24-year-old was unable to avert the collision despite a full braking. The older vehicle driver was able to get out of his car independently, but collapsed a short time later. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation by first aiders and the alarmed rescue workers, he died at the scene of the accident, as the Carinthia police reported.

Just a few days later, on December 28th, another incident was reported. Around 2:50 p.m. there was a foray collision between two cars in the Höfling area, Kötschach-Mauthen. A 54-year-old woman who drove from Kötschach towards Hermagor collided with an oncoming vehicle of a 40-year-old woman from the Hermagor district, with both driver's side mirrors being damaged. While the 40-year-old held and the police informed, the other driver initially drove to Dellach to examine the damage. In fact, however, she did not report the incident independently. During a later check at home, it turned out that it was heavily alcoholic, with a value of over 1.6 per thousand. Her driver's license has been temporarily decreased and it is legally prosecuted, as ORF Carinthia reported.

Significant consequences of accidents

The police emphasized the importance of responsible driving, especially in terms of alcohol at the wheel. Fortunately, while the 24-year-old only suffered slight to moderate injuries in the more serious accident, the circumstances of the second incident are also the focus of the investigation. The B111 Gailtal Straße was only driven by a lane during the accident recording in St. Paul, which led to traffic disruptions. The voluntary fire brigades of St. Paul/Gail and St. Stefan/Gail were also in use.
