20 years of community service: Support for the Carinthia relief organization in Hermagor
In the Gailtal region, community service plays an indispensable role, especially at the Carinthia relief organization and the Red Cross Hermagor. Both organizations benefit significantly from the committed civil servants who take on a variety of important tasks. This happens not only to support the employees, but also as part of a broad social engagement that has long since become essential.
The Carinthia relief organization is celebrating a 20-year partnership with community service this year. This represents an important milestone because the organization is committed to mobile care and support. Civil service places are currently being set up in every district of Carinthia, also in the Hermagor district, where the civil servants actively support the menu service "Eating on wheels". This initiative ensures that older people are delivered their meals directly to their home without having to cook themselves.
diverse tasks of the civil servants
Nicole Fischer, the department head of marketing and communication at the relief organization, emphasizes that the civil servants are not only responsible for the menu service. They are also involved in administration, public relations and in the day care center for people with disabilities. These diverse activities ensure that work in the aid organization remains varied and interesting. Under the motto "We deliver dishes to the front door", the organization ensures that customers are also supplied with a large selection of menus at the weekend.
Logistics and the staff of the menu service are led by Gerold Proprentner. He explains that the civil servants not only deliver meals, but also help with warming up and take the used dishes with them. For many older people, this service not only means food, but also a piece of social interaction that gives many great pleasure in their loneliness.
regional delivery and demand
The delivery of meals extends over the regions around Feldkirchen, including the "Tour Hermagor". Above all, the villages of Vorderberg and Karnitzen, which are closest to the municipality of Hermagor, receive regular deliveries. Five civil servants are currently active in Feldkirchen, which are part of the menu service. Despite the challenges in the field of community service, there is gratifying news: there is a good influx of interested civil servants who apply for a job in the menu service.
The Red Cross Hermagor also depends on support from civil servants. Ten civil servants are currently working in the emergency services. District office manager Elisabeth Wiedenig emphasizes that interest in community service has increased constantly and that the organization could start new civil servants at any time. Without the civil servants, the emergency services could not survive in its current form: they do around 21 percent of all working hours in the emergency services, which corresponds to around 300,000 hours a year.
The importance of community service for both organizations cannot be assessed highly enough. Be it in the delivery of meals or in emergency medicine - the work of the civil servants is indispensable for the support of older people and for medical care. Both organizations agree: community service and voluntary work are the backbone and heart of their services.
