Development of the traffic dead in Austria

The distribution of the road dead according to federal states shows that Carinthia remained stable in 2024 compared to the previous year. The main causes of the accident were often carelessness and distraction as well as non -adapted speed, which together made up a significant part of the accidents. In addition, four children up to 14 years died in traffic accidents in 2024, which underlines the importance of measures to improve traffic safety.

measures to improve traffic safety

The VCÖ's traffic safety officer continues to call for the government and the local authorities to pursue the objective of zero traffic dead. In order to achieve this goal, various measures are proposed: This includes the introduction of speed 30 on heavily used roads, comprehensive traffic calming measures and the creation of safe traffic routes for pedestrians and cyclists. Also structurally separate walking and bike paths as well as better public transport connections, such as night buses and call collection taxis, could also contribute to reducing the number of accidents. Safe access to stops are also of central importance.

Developments in traffic safety in Carinthia and Austria show that there is still a need for action despite positive trends. In particular, it is important to further increase the safety in road traffic and to permanently reduce the number of traffic accidents through targeted measures.
