Klagenfurt, Österreich - in 2024 Carinthia recorded a total of 30 letters, which stagnated compared to the previous year. It is particularly noteworthy that the state capital of Klagenfurt achieved the goal of zero road dead, a success, which was also achieved in 2018 and 2020. In the neighboring districts of Feldkirchen and Hermagor, however, there was a fatality, while Völkermarkt had the highest number with eight traffic fatalities, followed by Villach Land with six. Overall, the number of seriously injured in Carinthia rose to 525 in 2024, an increase of 18 compared to the previous year. The Spittal district on the Drau recorded most of the most serious injuries, followed by Villach with 72 and Villach Land with 64. The lowest figures were documented in Hermagor (29) and Feldkirchen (31). Statistics Austria collects the data on road traffic accidents with personal damage and regularly transmits them to the responsible authorities.

The main causes of the accident were often carelessness and distraction as well as non -adapted speed, which together made up a significant part of the accidents. In addition, four children up to 14 years died in traffic accidents in 2024, which underlines the importance of measures to improve traffic safety.

The VCÖ's traffic safety officer continues to call for the government and the local authorities to pursue the objective of zero traffic dead.
