Iran confirms Waffenruhe - rocket attacks on Israel continue!
Beʾer Scheva, Israel - On June 24, 2025, a ceasefire mediated by the USA will be announced between Israel and Iran. US President Donald Trump and Iranian state media officially confirm this agreement. Despite this announcement, Iranian armed forces will again fire rockets on Israel early Tuesday morning. Sirens sound in several regions, and Israeli air defense intervenes. The incident in Beʾer Scheva is particularly tragic, where a rocket hits a residential building. There are seven deaths and several injuries.
At the same time, several severe explosions can be heard in Tehran, which are classified as the most violent since the beginning of the conflict on June 13th. The Israeli army then publishes evacuation calls for two districts in Tehran and warns of further air strikes. Trump comments on Truth Social and describes the ceasefire as "complete and absolute". He explains that Iran should initially let the weapons rest for 12 hours, followed by Israel for the same duration. After a total of 24 hours a complete setting of the fighting should take place.
contradictory signals from Tehran
Despite the announcements, the signals from Tehran are contradictory. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghtschi initially explains that there is no agreement on an ceasefire, but the state broadcasting radio confirms the agreement. Araghtschi later announced that Iran would hire its attacks if Israel ends its military activities until 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning. According to reports from the Israeli military, there should still be rocket fire from Iran.
In some areas of Israel, strong shelling is reported, and at least one rocket is intercepted via Jerusalem. Former reports from the Israeli emergency services stomach David Adom reports of at least three deaths and eight injuries. So far, nothing has been known about the official statement of the Israeli government on Trump's ceasefire announcement.
context of the conflict
The current escalation is part of a lengthy conflict between Israel and Palestinian groups, which also includes Hamas in the Gaza Strip. There have been several wars over the years. The last fights began in Ramadan, triggered by clashes between Palestinians and the Israeli security forces in Jerusalem. These tensions were further fueled by impending evacuation in sheikh Dscharrah. Militant Palestinians describe their rocket attacks in response to Israeli aggressions, especially on the Jerusalem Day, which commemorates the conquest of the Eastern part of Jerusalem 1967
The EU and the USA expressed the rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. The Tempelberg, a Holy site for Jews and Muslims, remains a central point of dispute in the Middle East conflict. Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that it could be a longer conflict. The "Iron Dome", Israel's air defense system, has successfully intercepted many of the inventory rockets and thus prevents further damage and losses.
The developments in this conflict remain tense and uncertain. Compliance with the ceasefire could decide on the further course of violence and the stability of the region.
