Insolvency drama: Alpin Family GmbH with over 23 million euros in debt!
Alpin Family GmbH, a large hotel operator, has filed for bankruptcy at the Vienna Commercial Court. The debt status of the company and at least twelve other companies rose to over 23 million euros, although originally expected 17 million euros. The operating company, which is in the Dutch possession, has a complex company structure that also includes companies in Holland, Moscow and Dubai. Their headquarters are in Vienna and she runs numerous hotel brands such as "Avenida", "The House Collection" and "Alpin Rental".
Despite the bankruptcy, this apparently has no direct impact on the occupancy of the hotel beds in Upper Austria, where Alpin Family offers over 3,000 beds at ten locations in Salzburg, Tyrol and Upper Austria. Around 135 creditors and 73 employees are affected by the procedure, but the salaries of the employees are secured.causes of bankruptcy
The debt results from numerous factors, including the integration of new companies, which was perceived as slow, and increasing personnel costs. In addition, inflation and general price increases put a strain on the situation of Alpin Family GmbH. A noticeable decline in room elaborations was described as "unexpectedly weak winter", which further tightened. The company had invested significantly in team and IT in recent years and planned to increase its annual turnover from 55 to 75 million euros by 2025.
As part of the insolvency proceedings, far-reaching restructuring and renovation measures are to be initiated. Alpin Family offers its creditors a quota of 20 percent that should be payable within two years. The 14 property shares of the company, the value of which is determined in the procedure, must also be taken into account.
The situation of Alpin Family GmbH is reflected in a broader development of the hotel industry, which also affects other chains. For example, the German hotel chain Achaf had to register bankruptcy on November 27, 2024, caused by financial difficulties and the challenges of rapid expansion and the aftermath of Corona pandemic. As with Alpin Family, the Achels' hotels should initially be continued without restrictions, while a renovation plan is being developed in parallel.
The events around Alpin Family GmbH are a worrying sign for the hotel industry, which continues to move on troubled terrain after the turbulent years of pandemic. While salaries and the operating sequence are initially secured, the long -term stability of the company and the entire industry remains questionable.
