Hyundai Ioniq 9: The new electric giant comes to Austria!

Österreich - The South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai plans a comprehensive expansion of its electric vehicle portfolio until 2030. How OE24 reported, a total of 23 different models are to be launched by 2030. Under these models, the new Hyundai Ioniq 9 can be emphasized, which comes up with impressive dimensions of 5,060 mm in length, 1,980 mm in width and 1,790 mm.

The vehicle is expected to be offered with one or two electric motors that enable performance of 218 hp, 313 hp or even 435 hp. With a battery capacity of 100.3 kWh, the IONIQ 9 reaches a range of up to 620 km, which makes it one of the most advanced electric vehicle solutions. In the case of luggage compartment, the model offers space for 338 liters for the rear backrests set up, and the traction could be up to 2.5 tons. The charging capacity is also remarkable: it can reach up to 350 kW via an 800-volt-board architecture. The expected market launch in Austria is planned for autumn.

Hyundai's success strategy in electromobility

Hyundai has followed a successful strategy for electrifying its model offer in recent years, such as Auto Motor and Sport explained. The company's goal provides for selling two million electric cars annually by 2030, which means an increase of over 10% compared to the current e-share of around 8%. In order to achieve this goal, Hyundai will invest around 78 billion euros in the next ten years, with a third to flow into battery technology and electrical drives.

The investments are also used in new vehicle platforms and factories with the aim of increasing the production of electric vehicles. A new production facility, the "Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America" in Georgia, will probably be completed by 2024 and can produce 300,000 electric cars annually. The company is also planning to build a new EV factory in Korea with an investment volume of 1.4 billion euros, the start of which is scheduled for 2025

innovations and challenges

The Hyundai electromobility strategy includes vehicle production as well as new developments in battery technology. An example of this is the development center in Namyang, China, which is responsible for the introduction of new lithium-iron-phosphate batteries, the market launch of which is planned for 2025. Hyundai also relies on local battery joint ventures to secure the supply chain for essential raw materials such as lithium and nickel.

In view of the challenges that arise from changes in the Chinese market, Hyundai also plans a reduction in the product range in China from 13 to 8 models in order to focus more on SUVs and the luxury brand Genesis. The Hyundai brand was historically pushed by the introduction of the Hyundai Pony in 1975, the first series vehicle produced in Korea, and through the electric Hyundai Ioniq, which came onto the market in 2016 and offered over 200 kilometers of reach, which ensured the brand an important place in the electric vehicle industry, such as Firstev supplemented.
