HSV rejects Magath's presidential candidacy-what now?
Hamburg, Deutschland - The Hamburger SV rejected Felix Magath's candidacy for the office of president. This decision became known after the association's advisory board used its veto law and Magath's proposal was not approved after a detailed examination. According to the Hamburger Abbey Magath was also not sufficient with the presentation Statutes of the HSV familiar.
Felix Magath, a former national player and idol of the club, had already announced his candidacy in April and described himself as "the right HSV president for the next few years". His planned project included a re -occupation of the supervisory board, which did not meet the ideas of the HSV. The outgoing President Marcell Jansen will not start election again after six years, which means that the successor remains unclear.
Magath remains without an opportunity
Magath had also imagined a former HSV goalkeeper, Richard Golz, as Vice President. In the past, the 70-year-old had already run for the position of the sports director, who went to Stefan Kuntz. The members of the advisory board apparently believed that Magath's interests should be on the Supervisory Board, while the President plays a central role in club management.
The rejection of the candidacy shows the challenges with which traditional associations like the HSV are confronted. The structure of football clubs is often complex and requires a clear division of tasks between the different areas. In large clubs there is a desired separation between the board and the supervisory board, whereby the board is responsible for the operational management and the supervisory board plays a controlling role. These organizational aspects are crucial for the success of an association, as described by the Sportlexikon
The vote on the new President of the HSV will take place on June 21. In the meantime, it remains to be seen which consequences the decision for Magath and the club will have. Especially in such a strategically important moment, the HSV has to carefully consider how it wants to build its leadership structure in order to remain competitive in the Bundesliga.
