Historical treasure: Steyr personnel books secured in the Museum Working World
In a significant gift, ZF Steyr Präzisionstechnik GmbH and its commercial director Helmut Gelsingen handed over historical personnel books and workers' protocols to the Museum Working World. These valuable documents, which take a look at the work history in the region, date between 1865 and 1945 and provide information about employment and wage conditions as well as the geographical and social origin of the workers. With the handover, important gaps in Steyr's industrial history can be closed as far as the history of the companies based there and their employees, such as meinzirk.at reported. The commitment of the former ZF employee Peter Schönberger, who established contact with the management and has been taking care of the objects of the museum for almost a decade. These personnel books are now documented and find their place in the museum's online database, which is explained by historian Andreas Praher. The information that these books offer is not only important for interested parties, but also for researchers who deal with social and economic-historical topics. The gift is considered an important step towards securing regional workers' history, as the managing director of ZF Steyr precision technology, Alois Arnberger, emphasized.
valuable knowledge for research
The 64 books of the past not only document biographical data from former employees, but also illuminate their working conditions, reasons for discharge and even the distribution of income between men and women. "They therefore offer the possibility to understand the number of employees and their origin in detail and contribute to the extensive processing of industrial culture in Steyr," continues Andreas Praher. In the future, this valuable collection will be made available to the public in the museum to promote both memories and important social -historical research, as is explained in the Museum Arbeitswelt
