Historical inauguration: border mark on the green band inspires many!

Maria Elender Sattel, Österreich - Last weekend the Green-Belt border mark was inaugurated on the Maria Elender saddle. This ceremony recognizes the historical and cultural importance of the green band Europe. Numerous interested parties from the region and beyond took part in the event of the Nature Conservation Association. The ceremony for this important project attracts a wide audience that is interested in nature conservation and European cooperation.

The celebrations began with a joint hike from Greuth along the great drought. The hiking trail leads through an impressive natural landscape and is reminiscent of the history of the former border area. The inauguration of the border mark was celebrated as a symbol of hope, peace and cooperation between neighboring European countries.

meaning of the green band

The green band is the largest biotope network in Europe, which was created in the shade of the Iron Curtain. It extends over almost 1,300 kilometers in Austria, from Upper Austria to Carinthia, and has developed into a retreat for many rare animal and plant species in the past 40 years. It includes valuable natural goods such as the Böhmerwald, the Neusiedlersee, the March-Thaya-Auen and Dobratsch.

The nature conservation association is actively working on the preservation of the green band by species and biotope protection projects as well as information work. The green band acts as a functioning ecosystem and is crucial for the networking of natural areas. In view of the habitat cut, which is a main cause of species death, the green band plays an important role in nature conservation to counteract these challenges.

common history and future

Representatives of the municipalities of St. Jakob i.r. And Jesenice, local historians and interested citizens gave speeches about the importance of the green band. The Maria Elender saddle is considered one of the highest points in the region and was the setting for an important chapter of European history. The inauguration of the border mark is a step in the memory and appreciation of the common history. After the inauguration, the hikers continued their way to celebrate the traditional celebration of the narcissus festival in Planina Pod Golico, Slovenia. This festival is known for its flower splendor and the solemn atmosphere and offered a wonderful end to a day full of community and cultural exchange.

The goal of the green band is the creation of a cross -border network of natural oases and national parks, which is to extend from Murmansk to Burgas. Michail Gorbachev has taken over the patronage for the Green Band Europe, and the region around Bratislava and Vienna is a challenge for spatial planning. An information center for the Green Band was opened in Leopoldschlag in 2005 and offers important information and support in the implementation of nature conservation projects.

The nature conservation association organizes excursions, information evenings and international meetings to promote the green band. A CD was created to integrate municipalities into the project on the former Eastern Bloc border. A specialist conference with 180 participants recently took place on the subject of “life on the green band” in order to strengthen the importance of the project and to stimulate further discussions.
