Aid goods finally in the Gaza Strip: Rescue for hungry children!

The Gaza strip faces a humanitarian disaster that has dramatically intensified in recent months. Residents of the area have finally received the first relief supplies after they have been blocked by the Israeli government since the beginning of March. According to UN spokesman Stéphane Dujarric, around 90 truck loads with urgently needed goods were picked up on the Kerem-Shalom crossing. On Thursday, around 100 other trucks with relief goods arrived in the Gaza Strip to alleviate the critical situation of the civilian population, which suffers from extreme deprivation.

However, the distribution of these relief goods is under an unfavorable star. The Israeli authorities only allowed discharges in a "very overcrowded area", which, according to the aid organizations, is "not safe". Despite these challenges, the first deliveries to the people in the Gaza Strip were able to distribute the first deliveries. Aid organizations warn of impending famine, since, according to Palestinian information, almost 30 children and older people died of hunger in the last few days. Minister of Health Madsched Abu Ramadan said that up to 14,000 babies could die without further relief supplies because more than 90% of the medication supplies had been used up.

planned aid measures and international reactions

The private US Foundation Gaza Humanitrian Foundation (GHF) plans to start their work in the Gaza Strip to improve logistics and access. The aim of the foundation is to supply 1.2 million Palestinians over four distribution centers with food, water and hygiene articles. In the long term, all about two million residents of the Gaza Strip are to be reached. For this, food packages with 50 meals are available for families. Israel and the United States support this plan, which is led by former UN leadership personalities and military.

However, the plan was sharply criticized by doctors without limits (MSF). The organization rejects the control of the distribution of relief goods and indicates the problematic restrictions caused by the Israeli authorities. In addition, Israel accused Hamas of branching off and expensive to sell, which further intensifies the humanitarian situation.

Humanitarian conditions and appeals to the international community

The humanitarian location in the Gaza Strip is described as catastrophic. There is a lack of medication, drinking water, food, warm blankets and clothing. Operations in clinics have to be carried out without pain relievers, and the help offers for children are also greatly reduced. In view of this precarious situation, several aid organizations have requested unhindered access to humanitarian aid.

The EU has also criticized the blockade of relief goods and plans to review the collaboration with Israel with regard to human rights. In particular, the Netherlands accuse Israel of violating the basic principles of the association agreement. The wave of international concern is increasing, while the situation in the Gaza Strip continues to worsen and the civilian population suffers from extreme hardship.

The needy population hopes for an early improvement in the humanitarian situation. But if access to relief goods does not improve sustainably, this could have catastrophic consequences for the civilian population.
