The talks between the terrorist organization Hamas and Israel stagnate about a possible ceasefire. Hamas has offered to stop recruitment and training of fighters and the ditch of new smuggling tunnels. The conflict has been more escalated in the past few months. Israel reacted to the shooting of around 200 rockets from the Gaza strip with air strikes, in which both senior commanders and civilians were killed in the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen confirmed that Egypt's proposal to the ceasefire was checked, and reminded that Egypt has already conveyed in the past in fighting between Israel and militant Palestinians. hostage and stuck negotiations
Currently there are still 24 living hostages and 35 corpses of abducted in the Gaza Strip. These hostages were kidnapped during the Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the ongoing Gaza war. The Israeli government has offered to grant a 45-day fire break in an exchange for ten hostages, but Hamas confirmed that it would only agree to one final war end, not a temporary ceasefire.
The previous ceasefire phase ended in mid-March because both sides could not agree on the modalities for the next stage. After the end of this phase, the Israeli armed forces resumed their massive attacks in the Gaza Strip. General chief of staff Eyal Zamir threatened to escalate, should not soon be progressing in the discussions about the release of further hostages.
