Large project in Villach: Unterflurstrasse starts this summer!
In the summer of 2025, extensive construction work starts in the city of Villach, which will affect the drinking water supply and the transport infrastructure. Preparatory measures have been underway since April by the city of Villach's waterworks, which include new water pipes, drinking water shafts and fiber optic leader pipes. This work is part of a larger project that is supposed to continue until August, while the Asfinag construction work will begin in September after the main travel time.
For sustainable and stable water supply in crisis situations, such as natural disasters or technical disorders, legal requirements must be observed. These require the creation of alternatives in water supply when it comes to the Villach waterworks with innovative solutions. For example, the water mobile was developed, which is now considered a comprehensive emergency concept and can already be used flexibly in critical situations.
innovative water supply
The water mobile is not only combined with existing emergency supply systems, but also modularly built up in order to meet the individual requirements. The technical design can also react to crisis situations, which is extremely important when the central drinking water supply is interrupted. This mobile system, which received a patent on May 15, 2023, is operated by a funding pump and can also be used with a mobile emergency generator in the event of power outages.
The waterworks has focused on the development of the water mobile to guarantee the maintenance of drinking water supply for planned work or microbiological restrictions. This is particularly important for critical facilities such as hospitals and old people's homes. All components are practically accommodated on a 2-axis supporter, which has a total weight of 2,500 kg and can achieve a throughput of up to 10 m³/h. This solution was awarded the city of Villach's innovation award in 2020.
transport infrastructure and future plans
The construction work of ASFINAG that begins in September are part of a comprehensive plan to modernize and upgrade the traffic routes by the end of 2028. Villach and Asfinag will inform about the schedule, traffic management and other measures in July. A public information event in the Volkshaus Landskron is also scheduled for early July; The exact date should still be announced.
As can be seen from a report by the constant "climate change" committee, the infrastructure systems are often outdated in many regions and are not prepared for growing requirements. Innovative technologies play a crucial role in modernizing these systems. With these construction projects, the city of Villach will not only react to the current emergency situation, but also proactively work for the future resilience of the water supply and traffic infrastructure and thus encounter the challenges of climate change.
