Great day of honor: Matzles fire brigade celebrates 100 years and honorable awards!
On June 2, 2025, the section fire brigade day took place in Matzles, where numerous fire brigade members were awarded for their long-term and meritorious work in the fire and rescue system. The event marked the 100th anniversary of the local fire brigade and offered a platform to honor the tireless efforts of the firefighters. In this context, various badges of honor were awarded for special courage, as well as for long service times. These fire brigade badges, which have been awarded in Germany and Austria since the Second World War, are characterized by different classes and steps, based on the duration of belonging and the earned merits in fire protection.
As part of the event, a total of 33 fire brigade members received honors for their many years of belonging to the fire brigade. A large number of awards were awarded for 25 years of service, including Gerhard Hahn, Daniel Scharf, and Michael Frühwirt, to name just a few. Johann Hengst and Herbert Dallinger were honored for 40 years on duty. The award for 60 years was particularly noteworthy, including Othmar Prinz and Rudolf Ramharter, as well as the award for 70 years that Willibald Sauer and Josef Strohmer received.
diverse awards
In addition to the service anniversaries, special awards and badges were awarded. Markus Groß and Herbert Dallinger received the gold instructor in gold. Silke Lebernorger and Christa Binder were honored for the Florianiplate, a special honor within the fire brigade. Furthermore, earnings were awarded in various classes of the Lower Austrian State Fire Brigade Association. Martin Gegenbauer and Bernhard Poppinger received the 2nd class earnings, while Bernhard Redl and others were able to look forward to the 3rd class earnings. The fire brigade honorary phones are not only important in Austria. They also come into play in Germany and are available in bronze, silver and gold. These awards differentiate from rescue and flood medals and have been regularly awarded in recent decades. In Germany, fire brigade badges are recognized as a whole, whereby the country administration decides on the award. In Austria, the imperial medals of honor were abolished in 1918, and since 1923 there have been their own medals for meritorious fire brigade members.
an important legacy
The tradition of the fire brigade honorary miles goes back to the 19th century when they were introduced in the German Reich to promote the volunteer fire service. The award of these awards has been reorganized, especially in post -war Germany and Austria, so that special services in fire service are still recognized today. In this way, the importance of these badges of honor remains as a testimony to the tireless use of firefighters in modern society. Despite the differences in the procurement guidelines between different countries, the fire brigade badges of honor unite the goal of rewarding courageous behavior and many years of service.
