Grillitsch returns to Hoffenheim: What the future brings!

Florian Grillitsch, the Austrian midfielder, returns to TSG Hoffenheim on July 1, 2025. After a difficult time in Spain at Real Valladolid, he comments neutrally about his return and shows understanding of the club's decisions, but criticizes the type of communication. Andreas Schicker, the sports director and coach Christian Ilzer are still in office, which does not make the situation around Grillitsch easier. He has not been appointed to the match squad since Ilzer took office in November 2023.

In a personal conversation, Grillitsch was announced that another player profile would be sought. The 29-year-old was a regular, top performer and captain at Hoffenheim for years, which makes the current situation all the more surprising. In his loan to Real Valladolid, Grillitsch dreamed of more playing time and the opportunity to recommend himself for the national team. During his time in the Laliga, he only collected 622 minutes in 13 games, whereby his team only got one point and finally relegated to the second division.

Grillitsch returns from Valladolid, where he has to look back on a challenging season. "I noticed differences between the Spanish league and the leagues in Austria and Germany," explains the player. Apart from his sporting challenges, Grillitsch remains optimistic: "I go to the preparation at Hoffenheim normally, but I am unsure about my future". His contract with the club runs until June 30, 2026, which gives him a certain scope for design.

The loan to Real Valladolid was decided in joint conversations between Grillitsch and the club to enable him to improve the current season. Grillitsch played a total of 196 competitive games for Hoffenheim and scored nine goals and 17 assists. Since his debut for the Austrian national team in March 2017, he has played 50 caps and scored a goal.

With this return to Hoffenheim, Grillitsch hopes to reoré and find a place in the team. The coming season will be decisive for him, both at club and national level.
