Union loses a strong negotiator with Karl Dürtscher
Österreich - on Sunday Karl "Charly" Dürtscher, federal manager and chief negotiator of the GPA union, died after a serious illness. He had worked in the union since 1985 and took over the position of the managing director in 2018. Barbara Teiber, the chairwoman of the GPA, paid tribute to Dürtscher as a dear friend and experienced colleague, who was known as an upright trade unionist.
Dürtscher shaped working life in Austria. His role as a GPA chief negotiator in the metal industry and in numerous other industrial hours was of great importance. His negotiations on Corona short-time work, which were decisive in times of the crisis, are particularly noteworthy. His tireless commitment in collective agreement policy was responsible for over 170 collective contracts, which made him a central figure in the field of working conditions. This is particularly relevant because collective contracts are one of the oldest and most important achievements of the trade union movement in Austria.
Contribution to self -government
In addition to his role in the union, Dürtscher also held significant functions in the self -administration of social security. He was deputy chairman of the Vienna area health insurance, a member of the Auva Board of Directors and also Chamber Council in the Chamber of Labor. These functions show his commitment to the social concerns of employees in Austria and his efforts for better conditions.
The collective agreement law, which shaped Dürtscher's work, was introduced in 1947 and reveals the Reich Law on tariff regulations. This law corresponds to the No. 98 of the International Labor Organization and confirms the right to collective negotiations. The protection and development of collective contracts, which represent an essential component of social peace and the negotiating strategy of the unions, have been demanded and further developed, in particular since the first collective agreement negotiations in the second half of the 19th century.
The GPA union will remember Dürtscher's tireless commitment to employee rights and interests. The loss of such a committed and experienced negotiator leaves a large gap in the Austrian union landscape. His work will also have an impact on working life and collective contracts in Austria in the coming years.
For many, Dürtscher remains a role model that will continue to offer inspiration through his passion and strong belief in the rights of employees. The effects of his work will be noticeable by the collective contracts, which he has shaped.
The explosiveness of the collective contracts can also be seen in the contracts concluded annually, which are crucial for many employees to negotiate better income and working conditions. Dürtscher has contributed significantly to the fact that these negotiations have been taken seriously and form the basis for a fairer work environment.
