Dangerous goods transport without approval: 10,000 euros in security!

On May 16, 2025 at 9 a.m., the patrol patrol hazardous goods checked a saddle tank in the parking lot of the former motorway customs office on the A14 near Hörbranz. Serious deficiencies were found during the check that were an immediate danger to traffic safety. The vehicle was marked with two additional boards for "environmentally hazardous substances", but the labeling did not meet the legal requirements. In particular, the orange plates that are required in accordance with the ADR regulations were missing.

The driver of the vehicle also had no valid permission to transport dangerous goods and he lacked the necessary specialist knowledge in order to meet the requirements for the transport of dangerous goods. In this context, it should be mentioned that new regulations for European Convention on International Promotion of Dangerous goods on the street (ADR) have been in force for international rail goods (RID) and the Convention on Inner Water Paths (ADN) since 2021. These regulations apply to all companies and people who deal with dangerous goods.

measures and consequences

The vehicle was in an empty condition at the time of control, but was neglected, which caused additional safety concerns. To ensure traffic safety, measures were initiated immediately. A professional cleaning of the tanker was ordered and a preliminary security of almost 10,000 euros was raised. After completing the necessary measures, the driver was able to continue his journey towards Bosnia and Herzegovina.

These incidents illustrate the importance of compliance with safety regulations in dangerous goods transport. The regulations are not only of a legal nature, but also essential to minimize the risk of accidents and environmental damage. Road users must be aware of their responsibility, which is accompanied by the transport of dangerous goods. Consistent control and enforcement of the regulations is therefore essential to prevent such incidents in the future.
