GAIA-X: Digital future for Europe and Korea in data space protection!

Berlin, Deutschland - On June 5, 2025, the International Digital Security Forum (IDSF) took place a significant discussion under the title "The Next Generation of Trusted Data Sharing (Gaia-X)". The event was led by Roland Fadrany, the COO of the GAIA X Initiative. Experts from Europe and Asia came together to discuss the role of sovereign data rooms for the digital economy. This discussion emphasizes that GAIA-X supports companies by enabling them to use data about a global, standardized and transparent trust framework. Data that is considered the central asset for digital ecosystems and AI strategies are the focus of this initiative.

GAIA-X implemented federated trust services that are operated by independent Gala-X Digital Clearing Houses. The goal is to avoid central platform operators, which strengthens the autonomy and sovereignty of companies. The participants of the discussion, including Senadin Alisic from Combitech, Detlef Eckert from Deep Digital Consulting and Insuk Kim from the Korean-German Association of Economics and Management emphasize the urgency of so-called sovereign data infrastructures. Insuk Kim also emphasizes the economic cooperation between Korea and Europe, which is funded by Gaia-X.

application cases in various industries

The areas of application of Gaia-X extend over various sectors, with significant projects already being tackled. Examples are:

  • AW4.0: Auto workshop 4.0 -A platform for digitization of the workshop industry, which promotes the exchange of industry-specific data and AI models.
  • Cooperants - focused on aerospace, this project aims to accelerate digitization processes.
  • Eurodat - establishes a neutral data loan in finance and ensures data protection -compliant exchange.
  • Health-X Dataloft -develops transparent cloud-based applications for health data.
  • Marispace-X -focused on maritime sectors by developing an intelligent maritime data space.

Overall, numerous consortia are currently in the starting blocks under the slogan of Gaia-X to develop effective solutions for current challenges in data processing.

data sovereignty as a key

The increasing importance of digital ecosystems leads to growing requirements for data sovereignty. According to a report by Fraunhofer Iese, users should be informed about the use of their data and can decide independently. The understandable presentation of complex processes plays an important role here. The concept of data sovereignty suggests that users receive control through their data and their dispositions, which requires fundamental transparency in the digital economy.

The challenge is that products and services are increasingly being offered via digital platforms, which requires intensive data processing processes. However, the associated opportunities, such as the creation of new business areas and innovation bumps, also bring complex requirements for security and protection sensitive information.

In this context, the commitment of GAIA-X for the creation of interoperable and secure data rooms is considered crucial. This initiative not only acts as a technical framework, but also acts as a catalyst for providers and participants to develop innovative solutions and to ensure data sovereignty in digital ecosystems.
