FPÖ politician: End with the rainbow circus and a waste of tax money!

Wien, Österreich - Today, June 1, 2025, marks the beginning of Pride Month, which is celebrated in numerous cities worldwide. In Vienna, preparations for the rainbow parade are already in full swing. FPÖ federal party spokeswoman NABG. Lisa Schuch-Gubik recently commented critically about the social developments related to these events. It described the current political representation of equality as an exaggerated staging that categorizes it as a "rainbow circus".

Schuch-Gubik emphasizes that everyone should live as they want, however, the discrepancy between the needs of the citizens and the topics that are currently being treated politically. It is particularly concerned about the use of tax money that is issued for projects as part of the Pride Month, in particular the 651,000 euros for the Pride Parade in Vienna, which will take place on June 14th.

Criticism of Pride events

The FPÖ politician also expressed concerns about the participation of children in ideological productions that are often embedded in the context of such parades. Schuch-Gubik also criticized the representation of the participants and called for a return to national symbols such as the red-white-red flags. It sees the current rhetoric as a kind of ideological coercion and woken against which it makes itself strong.

The Viennese rainbow parade itself is accompanied by a variety of events that aim to promote acceptance and equal rights for the LGBTQIA+community. The Pride Run Vienna will take place on June 13th at 8 p.m., and from June 12th to 14th the Pride Village on Rathausplatz will provide entertainment and information. Here visitors can visit information stands and exhibitions and enjoy culinary highlights. These offers should create a home for the community and reduce prejudices, such as the use of the bathing ship and the Vienna City Beach Club.

The importance of the rainbow flag

The rainbow flag, which was designed by Gilbert Baker in San Francisco in 1978, stands for respect and acceptance in the LGBTQIA+community. Her colorful strips symbolize various topics such as sexuality, life, healing and harmony. The flag was created as a positive symbol of discrimination and violence and has since developed into a globally recognized sign of the rights of queer people. This flag was also part of the first major presentation for the "Gay Freedom Parade" in San Francisco and quickly became popular, especially after the parade in New York in 1994, where a 1.6 -kilometer -long flag was worn.

Although the rainbow flag is a sign of pride, there are still significant challenges for the LGBTQIA+community. In 2023, almost 1,500 hate motivated crimes against queer people were reported in Germany, which represents an alarming increase compared to the previous year. These statistical data reflect the ongoing difficulties with which the community is confronted, especially in countries in which homosexuality is still punishable.

Overall, the Pride Month in Vienna presents itself as an appeal for equality and acceptance, while at the same time the political debate about the perception and presentation of LGBTQIA+rights is gaining intensity.
