A look at corruption criminal law
The current incidents throw a light on the problem of corruption criminal law in Austria. This legal system is intended to ensure that officials do not abuse their position in order to obtain illegal advantages. The term “official” includes a large number of people and institutions involved in decisions in public law. A crucial element of corruption criminal law is that both active and passive bribery are punishable, as on oesterreich.gv.at
The recent incidents within the FPÖ and the continuing investigation against former officials raise questions that affect the public and the political institutions in Austria. Trust in political integrity is undermined by such events, as the Green State Member of the Landtag Anne-Sophie Bauer commented. The impending legal decisions could have significant effects on the FPÖ and their representatives.
