FPÖ demands great disclosure: Where do our taxpayers flow?

Österreich - On June 27, 2025, FPÖ general secretary Michael Schledlitz reacted to the media excitement to a parliamentary request for NGO funding. He sharply criticizes the federal government, which in his opinion is unable to provide information about which organizations tax money is paid out. "The FPÖ has made a comprehensive request known as the 'monster request'," said Schledlitz. This step has the goal of bringing more transparency to the remedial award.

Schledlitz emphasizes that it is necessary to list NGOs individually, since ministries have not published any specific figures in the past. He also expressed hope that every minister is informed about the use of the tax money in his department. He accuses the traffic light government to deceive the taxpayers and to disguise the money flows to party-related NGOs. If there is no comprehensive information, Schledlitz announced that it would go through the Freedom of Information Act. "The time of lack of transparency is over," said his clear statement.

demand for transparency

In connection with the investigation of the NGO finance, Wendelin Mölzer, Member of the National Council of the FPÖ, also made a similar request for state funds. Mölzer calls for a comprehensive transparency of the awarding of funds and the political neutrality of the recipient organizations. He points out that numerous NGOs not only enjoy tax advantages, but also receive direct state grants, which raises questions about fairness and neutrality.

Special attention applies to organizations such as Volkshilfe, Greenpeace and Fridays for Future. In the past, these have often participated in political protests, often against certain parties or government participations. Mölzer raises concerns that the state funds could possibly be misused for party political purposes and therefore calls for detailed breakdown of the financial means including the award criteria.

public interest and control

Both FPÖ politicians emphasize that the public interest is to create a clear demarcation between non-profit commitment and party political influence. Mölzer emphasizes that answers to the request should help promote the transparency and control of state funding policy in order to ensure taxpayers' trust. He sees the need to check the financing structure and the connections to political parties to ensure that the funds are not used for politically motivated protests.

In view of the current developments,

still observes how the traffic light government reacts to the inquiries and whether the financial resources are disclosed. The discussion about the state funding of NGOs remains a hotly controversial topic in the political landscape.
