Holiday care in Lower Austria: Relief for working parents ensured!

Statzendorf, Österreich - On May 28, 2025, the State Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister informed about the holiday care in Lower Austria. The upcoming summer holidays begin on June 28 and, above all, present working parents with organizational challenges. In order to cope with this, the state of Lower Austria offers a comprehensive package for holiday care that aims to support the compatibility of family and work.

The presentation took place in the Statzendorf elementary school (St. Pölten district). In addition to the State Councilor, Mayor Herbert Ramler and headmistress Manuela Dockner were present. "Our goal is to relieve the parents and help them to better reconcile work and family," said Teschl-Hofmeister.

extensive support from the country

The country's support not only includes financial support services, but also a variety of educational offers and creative programs. According to current information, around 75 % of the municipalities provided holiday care offers for school -age children last year. In 308 municipalities, the care took place directly at the school location, with an average of over 5,000 children being looked after per week.

In addition to the existing offers, the municipalities receive financial support in the amount of 250 euros per group and week and up to 400 euros for integrative support offers. Last year, over 1.8 million euros were paid for holiday care. Municipalities also have the option of receiving up to 6,500 euros in funding per school year for these offers.

flexible funding opportunities

The state of Lower Austria emphasizes that funding for childcare care campaigns is possible from one week. These can be offered during the summer holidays and in the semester, Easter, autumn and Christmas holidays. Organizers include communities, non -profit organizations and associations. A childcare agreement with the parents, which contains essential information such as the childcare contribution and the childcare times, is required.

  • maximum support: 250 euros per childcare week and group.
  • Additional funding for integratively funded children: up to 150 euros per group and week.
  • Applications must be made at the latest eight weeks after the holiday care carried out.
  • carrier of after -school care and day care facilities at the same location are excluded from the funding.

The need for holiday care

The need for comprehensive holiday care becomes clear by the brochure for the compatibility of family and work. In Germany, the social report in 2024 shows that 68 % of mothers and 92 % of fathers with children under the age of 15 are employed at work. This illustrates the high need for flexible care offers, especially during the summer vacation, where many parents need support to reconcile work and family.

Die NÖ Familienland GmbH acts as a cooperation partner for the municipalities and offers information opportunities about the Lower Austrian family hotline for locations and periods of holiday care offers. The hotline can be reached at 02742/9005-1-9005 to make it easier for parents to access these important offers.
