EU pioneers promise economic upswing: research, found, grab!
Kopenhagen, Dänemark - On May 23, 2025, a decisive meeting of the presidents of the European employer and industrial associations (COPRES) took place in Copenhagen. As part of this meeting, Georg Knill, President of the Industry Association (IV), expressed a positive impact on the latest initiatives of the EU Commission, which aimed at improve the competitiveness and resilience of Europe. The focus of the consultations was the strengthening of the economy and the challenges with which Europe is faced with. An exchange also took place with the Danish Minister of Industry, Economic Affairs and Finance, Morten Bødskov, as well as EU Commissioner for Housing and Energy, Dan Jørgensen. The visit to the Danish royal couple was part of the program and underlined the importance of the meeting.
competitiveness through innovation and decarbonization
The EU Commission presented the “compass for competitiveness” to position Europe as a location for future technologies and climate-neutral products. President Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes the need to overcome European weaknesses, since productivity growth has fallen behind other economies in the past two decades (Europa.eu).
A number of focus on action is defined in the compass: innovation, decarbonization and security. In the innovation area, an environment is to be created that is particularly beneficial for start-ups. At the same time, the industrial leadership role is strengthened in strong sectors. For decarbonization, tailor -made action plans for energy -intensive sectors are intended to reduce high energy prices and to accelerate the transition to clean energy.
The deal for a clean industry
In addition to this, the EU Commission launched the "deal for a clean industry", which is considered a central component of the strategy to promote competitiveness and resilience in European industry. The focus of this deal is on the acceleration of the decarbonization and ensuring a flourishing processive industry in Europe ([europa.eu] (https://germany.represation.ec.europa.eu/deal-fur-e-e--saubere-fur-and competition-and-competition fahness-eu-2025-02-26_de).Ursula von der Leyen emphasizes that obstacles such as high energy prices and excessive regulatory effort have to be broken down. The deal mobilizes over 100 billion euros for the support of clean production at short notice and provides a wide range of measures to ensure the necessary efficiency in the regulatory environment. This includes specific action plans for the automotive, steel and metal industry, which are considered particularly energy-intensive.
It is crucial for the EU to create clear framework conditions that open up rooms for investments and innovations. The appeal to the Danish Presidency is therefore to set the course for an innovation -friendly regulatory environment and to strengthen the competitiveness of Europe through targeted measures.
Overall, the meeting in Copenhagen and the introductions by the EU Commission aim to revitalize the European internal market through clear action orders and internationally competitive conditions. The challenges are great, but with a clear focus on innovation, sustainability and stronger cooperations in the internal market, Europe can result in strengthened from the current crisis.
