Discover the biodiversity: Days of the city gardens in Vienna!

The Viennese city gardens invite you to the "Diversity of Biodiversity" on May 24th and 25th, 2025 in the Hirschstetten flower gardens. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and addresses the important role of biodiversity in urban rooms. Numerous information and participation offers are available under the annual topic "Baum" with the motto "Crowned root work". The aim is to raise awareness of the protection of biodiversity and to bring expert opinions closer.

There will be various activities on the variety of biodiversity, including guided tours that take place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 3 p.m. and on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. The participants can get an insight into crop protection and tree security, while children can take part in interactive activities, including microscopes for observing flora and fauna as well as a tree memory. In addition, several stations provide information about different types of tree on the site.

green spaces and urban biodiversity

According to an examination of urban gardens, the decline in natural habitats in cities is increasingly compensated for by the design of green areas and gardens. These gardens not only promote biodiversity, but also offer habitats for endangered species. Local plants are of central importance, since they adapt to local conditions and offer food sources for insects such as bees and butterflies.

For the variety of biodiversity, a Viennese climate tour is offered that provides information about green spaces, biodiversity and energy. Visitors have the opportunity to explore some stations with cargo bicycles that go into the topics of "green space", "water" and "energy". A “mushroom wheel” is also available to illustrate the importance of mushrooms in the ecosystem.

arrival and further information

The Hirschstetten flower gardens are easily accessible by public transport and by car. The southern entrance can be reached via Quadenstraße 15 (bus line 95a/b), while the west entrance is located on the Spargelfeldstrasse compared to No. 75 (tram line 26). From the north entrance on Oberfeldgasse opposite No. 41 (tram line 26), visitors also reach the site. Note: Dogs are not allowed all over the site, except assistance dogs.

The commitment to nature conservation and the promotion of urban biodiversity are not only locally, but also of a superordinate importance. The integration of biodiversity -promoting measures into urban planning is steadily promoted. The benefits of urban gardens are versatile: they not only offer food and habitats, but also strengthen social interaction among the city inhabitants.
