Honorary prices for brass music: strength of the community in Lower Austria!
In the Haus der Musik in Grafenwörth, the honorary award ceremony at brass music bands from Lower Austria took place on May 23, 2025. A total of 67 honorary prizes were awarded: 43 in bronze and 24 in silver. The governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner presented the awards and in her speech emphasized the importance of club life and cohesion in the region. Mikl-Leitner emphasized that brass music represents an essential pillar for customs care and cultural life in Lower Austria.
It is particularly noteworthy that almost half of the musicians are under 30 years old. In this context, the importance of young talent and close cooperation with music schools was addressed. Future investments in brass music, including the opening of Zeillern Castle in 2024, were also mentioned. Bernhard Thain, state chairman of the Lower Austria Blasmusikverband, spoke about how important the music clubs are as places of encounter for the community.

initiatives to promote brass music
The importance of brass music is also underlined by various initiatives that specifically devote themselves to youth work and the preservation of culture. Blasmusikblog.com, for example, presents outstanding projects from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and beyond. This includes the Juventus Music Award of the Austrian Blasmusikverband, with which innovative, sustainable projects are recognized.
Another example is the ASM young composer competition, which will support young composers and will take place next year. These and similar projects should act as role models for other brass music associations in order to promote interest in brass music and to actively involve the youth.
In the area of youth work, great emphasis is placed on training and further education in the Tyrol wind music association. Initiatives such as “music in small groups” and the performance badge tests play a central role. The State Association Youth Officer Martin Waldner is responsible for the organization of such events, while his deputy Klaus Strobl is responsible for the competitions. These measures contribute to the continuous further development of the professional and musical skills of the young musicians.
The honorary award in Grafenwörth is therefore not only an appreciation of the previous services, but also an incentive for the future of brass music in Lower Austria. The close networking and the ongoing promotion of youth are crucial in order to preserve the cultural diversity and customs in the coming years.
