Former prison in Steyr becomes a hotspot for start-ups!
The former prison in Berggasse in Steyr is converted into an innovation campus that is specially designed for start-ups and new future technologies. This project, which was announced today on May 18, 2025, provides comprehensive construction work to create both work areas and temporary living opportunities for students and employees. In addition, a publicly accessible gastronomy should make the Ensemble attractive to the general public. The City Senate commissioned the company CMB. Industries GmbH with the detailed concept and the pre -marketing phase in order to create planning security and to decide on the implementation of the project in autumn. The city of Steyr provides almost 29,000 euros for the preparatory work to develop a well -founded position and a clear vision for the project.
Mayor Markus Vogl describes this project as a great opportunity for Steyr. The innovative location should not only offer an environment for learning and research, but also create modern job opportunities for young companies. The transformation plans aim to transform the historic building into a creative space that meets the needs of the digital economy. This initiative corresponds to a growing trend of converting existing buildings into dynamic work environments and thus using urban space.
innovation promotion and networking
In a supplementary context to the innovation campus in Steyr, the accelerator at the KIT promotes the entrepreneurial way of thinking among young scientists. From June 12, a program will be offered to graduates, doctoral students and postdocs that are researching in the areas of mobility and production. The aim is to offer participants access to a network of mentors and experts in order to support the development and implementation of their ideas. The participants go through six modules with workshops that are focused on entrepreneurial action and practical project presentations.
Experiences such as those of the Mothor team, which successfully participated in similar programs, show the high value of such initiatives. Members of the group report on their increase in knowledge, which was made possible by programs to start the company. The exchange not only offers perspectives for the further development of your projects, but also valuable contacts that can help finance and founding new ideas.
These two projects - the innovation campus in Steyr and the Accelerator at KIT - underline the growing importance of promoting innovation and the exchange of ideas between science and business. Such initiatives can create creative solutions and future -oriented companies that work locally and internationally.
