environment and market development
The recently adopted EU battery regulation fits into the picture, which comes into force in early 2024. This entails new requirements for manufacturers who are obliged from 2028 to reuse certain recyclate shares of active materials, including lithium, nickel, cobalt and lead. These developments open up new perspectives in the area of battery cycling, since technologies to recover materials from production waste and aged cells are still establishing.
The interest in recycling procedures, especially lithium-ion, sodium and zinc-ion technologies, has risen sharply in recent years. Companies like Ecobat are in a key position to secure both the market share and to put sustainable practices in the foreground, whereby a characterization laboratory for analyzing recycled materials was set up, such as Fraunhofer ISE informed.
ecobat will continue to look for ways to maximize the value for its shareholders beyond this transaction and thus remains a central player in the global market for battery cycling. The withdrawal from France and the concentration on lithium-ion batteries show the clear strategic steps of the company in a rapidly changing environment.
