Urgent help for Ukraine: President Selenskyj in Vienna!

Wien, Österreich - On June 16, 2025, the Situation in Ukraine will continue to be shaped by several crises that keep the physical and psychological stress of the population extremely high. Andreas Knapp, CEO of neighboring in need, emphasizes the urgency of continuing help in the face of the ongoing war. People put daily air alarms and constant rocket and drone attacks under considerable pressure. After more than three years of conflict, it is clear that the humanitarian situation does not offer a clue to an improvement, which means that long -term support remains essential.

Neighbor in need has been intensively committed to people in Ukraine in recent years. Numerous aid projects were launched, which have become significantly more important since February 2022. In this way, over 2.7 million people could be supported by 80 different projects. The Austrian population has donated 68 million euros to neighboring in need to date, supplemented by 48 million euros that the federal government made available from the foreign catastrophic fund. These funds are used for safe accommodation, medical care and advice.

help on site and urgent need for support

With the aid campaign "Help for Ukraine", ORF and neighboring in need set everything to make as many people as possible accessible to the urgently needed care. These include water, food, hygiene articles, medical help as well as financial support and heating material. Neighbor in need cooperates closely with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and realizes aid projects in both Ukraine and in neighboring countries to help the affected people quickly and efficiently.

In addition, it was found that over 1,200 health facilities in the country were damaged or destroyed by the acts of war. Mobile health teams are ready to organize medical treatments and transports into remote areas in order to ensure the necessary care there. Knapp explains: "The situation is highly dramatic and the need for support is growing." Donations are diverse, including transfers, SMS donations and online donations.

mental health in focus

Another area that is increasing in humanitarian aid is mental health. Children in particular are heavily burdened by the traumatic experiences. Aid projects offer various forms of care - from one -time contacts to regular group activities or weekly individual sessions. These measures are usually carried out by psychologists: interior and social workers: inside, which are specially trained for dealing with traumatized children. The importance of such further training is evident to enable employees to sensitively address and act stressful topics.

In order to maintain and expand direct help in Ukraine, neighbor continues to ask for donations. Each contribution can make a significant difference for people in Ukraine who suffer from the devastating consequences of the war. Further information on the donation options and the current aid projects can be found on the neighboring neighboring in Need and ORF.
