Dramatic postponement: Ex-lobbyists apply for detonation in the Buwog scandal!
In the Causa Buwog, the convicted ex-lobbyists Walter Meischberger and Peter Hochegger are in prison. Both applied for detonations on May 30, 2025. These applications were confirmed by the court spokeswoman Christina Salzborn, but a decision on the appeals of the detention is still pending. Meischberger leads medical reasons for its compensation for enforcement. Peter Hochegger, who was sentenced to three years in prison, had previously received a postponement of two months due to a hip disease. However, it was not officially confirmed whether this postponement is available.
Hochegger and Meischberger were central players during the process for the Buwog scandal. Meischberger was like Hochegger, and he was sentenced to a prison sentence of 3.5 years. While the two are fighting for their habit, ex-finance minister Karl-Heinz Grasser, the most prominent convict of the affair, has not yet made a request. Grasser, who was sentenced to four years in prison for infidelity and gift acceptance by civil servants, received the request to compete on May 2.
Grasser and the background of the affair
Grasser had time until May 7th to report in Innsbruck. In the event of a possible non -entry, he threatens a police demonstration. He was the main person responsible in the Buwog affair, which is connected to the illegal sale of 60,000 federal apartments in 2004. This privatization met with massive criticism, as experts estimate that the Republic of Austria could have escaped up to one billion euros.
The scandal for the sale of federal apartments is characterized by illegal agreements and possible bribes. Grasser is accused of knowing about the controversial payments. In the meantime, the Court of Auditors found that the better price in retail sales was well above the sales price of 594 euros per square meter. The investor Immofinanz was able to make a profit of 1.2 billion euros through the purchase.
The career of the investigation
The BUWOG affair came to light in 2009 by accident when investigations into the bankruptcy of Constantia Privatbank unveiled unusual commission payments. Several charges have occurred over the years, and in March 2025 the debt was rejected due to the infidelity allegations against Grasser and others. In the process that started in 2017, Grasser was guilty of the first instance.
On March 25, 2025, the debt was confirmed in the core allegations of courts and Grasser ultimately received four years in prison, while Meischberger and Hochegger also received significant punishments. A further clarification of Meischberger's health problems will now be necessary in order to decide whether it can be granted to him.
The decisions about the stabs stamp applications are eagerly awaited because they could directly influence the fate of the convicted men. If none of the ruffles are approved, all three men must compete at the beginning of June.
