Dramatic recording in Munich: Fire brigade frees 12 people!
Grasmeierstraße, München, Deutschland - in Munich on June 1, 2025 there were two dramatic operations by the fire brigade, which had to deal with complex situations in elevators. While an elevator in Grasmeierstraße was fixing twelve people, the fire brigade had to save a seriously injured 82-year-old from a elevator shaft in another case.
In the first incident that occurred in Grasmeierstrasse, there was an elevator. The technician, who tried in vain to start the elevator for several hours, finally alerted the fire brigade. The situation became increasingly uncomfortable for the inmates. Operating managers got an overview on site and found that the driving basket was hung between the floors and could not be solved. A fishing mechanism prevented the cabin from falling uncontrolled, but there was no stopping point to lift the driving basket. Therefore, the head of operations decided to free the people over the roof. After safety measures, the fire brigade cut a hole in the cabin cover through which a plug -in conductor was pushed. Fortunately, all occupants were able to leave the vehicle unharmed. It remains unclear whether damage itself has occurred on the elevator, such as [Fireworld] (https://www.fireworld.at/2025/06/01/bayern-ueberfuellter-aufzug-%86oken.
rescue of an injured woman
A parallel, but tragic incident occurred in Riesstrasse when an 82-year-old woman fell into an elevator while getting in. Her husband was already in the elevator when he moved up unexpectedly and the legs of the woman in the gap between the cabin and the driving shaft remained. The elevator stopped about 40 centimeters in front of the first basement, which inflicted serious leg injuries and a strong blood loss to the woman. Her husband informed the elevator service, which alerted the fire brigade, reports the Abendzeitung.
The first aid was unsuccessful because the gap could only be expanded slightly. Due to the critical condition of the woman, the emergency services decided to anesthesize them and support them with a spine. The fire brigade loosened the brakes of the elevator to take the cabin and thus reached the position to free the woman - with the support of several firefighters who went into the cabin to reach the necessary weight. This process took around 40 minutes before the woman was finally brought into the shock room of a clinic. The police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident, while the fire brigade has no further information.
regulations on elevator security
The incidents also lead a light on the applicable safety regulations for lifts in Germany. From the beginning of 2019, elevator operators will have to store emergency plans and technical documents directly at the elevator system. These documents include emergency exemption instructions and operating manuals to ensure the safety of users and service technicians. The responsible committee at the Federal Ministry of Building has clearly defined which documents must be kept on the elevator systems so that similar operations can be coordinated better in these cases, as the Bundesbaublatt reports.
