Drama on the A14: Mother gives birth to baby in the car!
In the night of Friday, May 23, 2025, a newborn was born on the A14 motorway near Schlins in Vorarlberg in the passenger seat of a car. The expectant mother, a woman from the Bludenz district, felt the first contractions on the way to the nearby hospital in Feldkirch around 10:50 p.m. However, the course of birth turned out to be faster than expected, so that the company had to be interrupted abruptly.
When the contractions became more intense and the baby's head became visible, the father decided to stop the vehicle on the breakdown strip. He alerted the rescue workers via the emergency call. At 11:09 p.m. the little boy finally saw the light of day - before the rescue workers could arrive. The police officers who arrived at the scene a short time later secured the Situation and accompanied the young family.
safe arrival despite unexpected circumstances
In this case,The police did not need to take on an assistant role during the birth, but concentrated to look after the family until the emergency services arrived. After the successful birth, mother and child were transported to the Feldkirch State Hospital. Fortunately, both are well.
Unplanned births in vehicles are not common, but occur again and again. Statistics show that a small but growing number of births outside of clinics is recorded worldwide. For example, around 2 % of the births in Germany - around 14,000 - take place in a different framework than a hospital, often through home births or in emergencies like this. This development increases the risk of birth complications, especially if quick action is necessary.
birth phases and important notes
A birth takes place in several phases: the opening phase in which the cervix opens, the expulsion phase in which the baby's head becomes visible, and finally the post -birthday phase in which the placenta is born. For expectant mothers, it is important to be in a comfortable position during the birth and that a quiet environment is created. In case of doubt, contact with medical staff should be sought at any time.
In summary, this event on the A14 shows that sometimes unplanned situations can be solved in an incredible way. Many thanks to the authorities used, which were able to help despite unusual circumstances. With this in mind, we wish the family all the best for the future together.Further details about the birth and your phases can be found in various medical contributions.
