Discussion in the Jewish Museum Vienna: Middle East conflict on the agenda!

In the Jewish Museum of Vienna, the intervention "No place for discussion?" Instead of talking about the Middle East conflict. This event falls at a time that is characterized by the devastating effects of the Hamas massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people were killed and around 250 were dragged into the Gaza strip as hostages. The Israeli society found these events like a pogrom and it stems to the collective trauma of the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust, as reported by the [bpb] (https://www.bpb.de/themen/ wars-konflikte/dossier-warge-konflikte/54655/Nahost/).

The intervention in the Jewish Museum asks visitors to listen, reflect and then discuss. In the supporting program, creative formats such as "Knit* (in) the museum!" contained that are used for conversations and reflection. This concept will be implemented on several dates, including July 27, August 31 and September 14, 2025, whereby participants can work with wool and needles on site. A special lecture on the subject of "War in Gaza and the Der reduction to position yourself" with the expert Ronen Steinke illuminates international perspectives and social effects in Germany and Austria.

social polarization and humanitarian crisis

Intervention reacts to the social and media faults that have been increasingly observed since October 7, 2023. The starting basis is the preventive covering of a Holocaust memorial in London Hyde Park in April 2024. During the ongoing clashes in the Gaza Strip, around 36,000 Palestinian people were killed, while the Israeli military strategy aimed to weaken Hamas and free the hostages. At the same time, around 1.7 million people had to flee in the Gaza Strip, which dramatically tightened the humanitarian Situation.

The debate about the Middle East conflict reflects the increasing tensions and the demands for an armistice, which are formulated by 28 countries, including Canada, Great Britain and many European countries. The [LPB] (https://www.lpb-bw.de/Hahost conflict) documents that tens of thousands in Israel demonstrate for the end of the conflict and the release of the hostages. Criticisms of Israel’s Military Actions have gained traction in International Discourse, Leading to Calls for Increased Humanitrian Aid and Concerns Over Alleged Against Civilians.

a room for reflection

The intervention "No place for discussion?" Do not aim to give quick answers, but would like to make time to think. Voices from various contexts, such as Doron Rabinovici and Inbal Volpo, are gathered to discuss the complexity of the situation. The event is curated by Caitlin Gura and designed by Solo without a - studio for design. Accompanying blog posts deepen the objects and positions presented to illuminate the topic more comprehensively. Admission to the event is free, but a leadership ticket is required.
