Digital revolution in healthcare: Elga will be more effective from July 2025!

From July 2025, health care patients will change significantly. From this point on, laboratories and radiologists are obliged to digitally upload all findings and image data to the electronic health file (ELGA). This measure is part of a comprehensive plan to digitize the health system that the Federal Government initiated under the direction of Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens). As early as 2026 to 2030, further health data will be integrated into ELGA to ensure a comprehensive overview of the health of the citizens, such as 5min.at

A central aspect of the planned innovations is the introduction of a practical short -acting act for patients, the associated "patient summary", and a digital medication plan called Digimed. These are intended to provide patients a clear overview of their medical data, including information on medication, doses and use times. In addition, the existing ELGA portal is subjected to comprehensive renewal, and an associated ELGA app is also being planned. These developments represent a significant progress in digital health care, as well as [Nachrichten.at] (https://www.nachrichten.at/politik/innenspolitik/innenspolitik/innungsplan-patient-Patient-Patient-Patient-Patient-Patient-ALGA-WIRD-MASSIV-ARTABURBUCHE;

integration and interoperability

In order to avoid supply gaps, the project also focuses on "integrated care" for people with chronic illnesses, at the beginning in cases of diabetes and heart failure. This should be made possible by access to ELGA and the electronic vaccination pass, which is also made available in an app. From autumn 2025, citizens also have the option of accessing their X -rays and other imaging procedures directly and downloading them. This measure aims to increase the transparency and self -determination of the patients and is assessed by experts as a crucial step towards a modern health system.

One of the basic innovations from 2026 concerns the mandatory electronic diagnostic documentation for resident doctors. This is supplemented by a secure communication platform according to the open source protocol "Matrix", which is created to optimize communication and exchange between health services. Mobile nursing services should also be connected to ELGA, which includes the documentation and access to specific care apps in order to optimally support those affected.

investments in digitization

The comprehensive measures for digitizing the health system are part of a strategic initiative presented on July 10, 2024. This “EHEALTH strategy Austria” aims to enable all citizens to enable all citizens to access their health system and health data in the inside by 2030. For this purpose, 51 million euros are provided by the federal government, the federal states and social security annually to create the corresponding technical requirements.

From 2025, digital health treatments (Diga) are also planned, which are intended to support people with chronic diseases in particular. Through these apps, patients are intended to document their values such as blood sugar and thus inform the doctors about their health states. All of these initiatives contribute to a comprehensive renovation of the Austrian health landscape in order to ensure better and more efficient care of the population, as well as [Gesundheits.gv.at] (https://www.gesundheit.gv.at/news/aktuelles/aktuell-2024/eHealth-strategie.
