The new Citroën C5 Aircross: electrifying family flagship!

The Citroën C5 Aircross, the flagship of the traditional brand, is experiencing a comprehensive redesign that makes it a symbol of electrification in the automotive sector. As part of the 100-year history of Citroën, which began in 1919, the motto "100 years later-Citroën the world" is prominently emphasized. The second generation of the C5 Aircross is now offered as a partial or fully electric vehicle, while the historical reference is not lost: 1925 illuminated founding father André Citroën the Eiffel Tower with its own logo.

The dimensions of the C5 Aircross are impressive: 4,652 mm in length and 1,902 mm in width, which ensures a spacious family design. The interior equipment is well thought out and offers five passengers not only compactness, but also a lot of comfort. The model is introduced without a diesel drive with a clear focus on electrically supported drives. The engine palette ranges from a mild hybrid petrol engine to fully electric variants.

versatile drive options

The drive options of the C5 Aircross are diverse. Customers can choose between a mild hybrid petrol engine with 145 hp, a plug-in hybrid with 195 hp or fully electric variants with up to 230 hp. The fully electric models also offer impressive ranges - combined up to 680 km in the WLTP - and are therefore optimal for the requirements of modern users.
The specific drive options are as follows:

  • Mildhybrid petrol engine: 1.2-liter three-cylinder, 145 Ps.
  • Plug-in-hybrid: 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo-Otto, 195 hp, 17.9 kWh battery, up to 80 km of e-range.
  • full electro variants:
    • 75 kWh battery, 210 hp, up to 520 km range.
    • 97 kWh battery, 230 hp, up to 680 km range.

The electrified drives are based on the new StLa medium platform, which not only enables high flexibility in the design, but also ensures that the interior remains generous, regardless of the selected drive.

comfort and modern technologies

The design and the comfort of the C5 Aircross are particularly worth mentioning. The interior in the C-Zen lounge style offers plenty of space and uses high quality materials including recycled plastics. The new Citroën Advanced Comfort® seats are electrically adjustable, heated and even offer massage functions. The progressive Hydraulic Cushions® suspension also contributes to a driving experience that is perceived as pleasant in both the city and on long distances.

Technological innovations such as a 10-inch head-up display and Citroën Matrix LED headlights significantly improve visibility. The trunk capacity of DM 565, expandable to DM 1,668, also speaks for the practical usability of the vehicle.

Citroën plans to introduce the C5 Aircross in the second half of 2025 in the most important European markets. This introduction is part of the company's strategic orientation, which not only positions itself as a manufacturer of cheap electric vehicles, but also as a competent provider in the e-mobility sector. Company boss Thierry Koskas emphasizes that Citroën focuses on the provision of inexpensive electric cars that address the entire range of buyers.

The upcoming launch of the new generation of the C5 Aircross reflects the profound transformation of Citroën, which is not only characterized by technical innovations, but also by a clear confession to sustainability. The use of lithium iron phosphate batteries that are cheaper and do not require rare earths are a significant step in the right direction.

With the C5 Aircross, Citroën positions itself at the top of e-mobility, while the historic reference to the brand, such as the legendary lighting of the Eiffel Tower, is not forgotten.
