The flying Dutchman: Magical premiere in the quarry is imminent!

St. Margarethen, Österreich - in St. Margarethen started the rehearsal work for the opera "The Flying Dutch" by Richard Wagner on June 2, 2025. The intensive preparations are characterized by the upcoming time pressure, as the director of the quarry, Krenn, emphasized when greeting the actors. In wind and weather, the rehearsals should take place to perfect the last details of the production.

The staging, which will celebrate Premiere in St. Margarethen on July 9, plays on a ship on a ship and in a house, the interior of which is projected onto a rock wall by live cameras with mystical pictures. This happens under the direction of the stage designer Momme Hinrichs, the goal of which it is to create a mystical space between reality and dream. The costumes, designed by Eva Dessecker, are shaped by breathable materials in the "Curse of the Caribbean" style and are fairly lived up to the fantastic setting.

The main actors

The main role of the captain's daughter Senta is embodied by Johanna Will. Tommi Hakala gives the "flying Dutch". The singers share their roles in the staging: In addition to Johanna Will, Elisabeth Teige, Johanni van Oostrum, George Gagnidze and James Rutherford are on stage. Senta dreams of the navigator, which is damned to eternal life, who can go ashore every seven years to win a woman's love.

In addition, the role of the hunter Erik is occupied by the tenors AJ Glueckert, Dominik Chenes and Nenad Čiča, while Jinxu Xiaohu and Brian Michael Moore return as helmsman. The part of the Mary is sung by mezzo -soprano Roxana Constantinescu. Liang Li and Jens-Erik Aasbø take over the character of the Daland, while for the Dutch the Baritone George Gagnidze, James Rutherford and Tommi Hakala are hired.

The musical management takes over Patrick Lange, an internationally recognized conductor who has already successfully worked on well -known opera houses such as the Vienna State Opera and the Komische Oper Berlin. For a long time, one of the leading interpreters of Wagner's works and conducted “The Meistersinger von Nuremberg” and “Rusalka” conducted. His debut at the Bavarian State Opera was celebrated for his commitment to “Das Rheingold” in the summer of 2021.

The Piedra Festival Orchestra will act as a residence orchestra and perform selected songs, including Senta's song and the choir of the sailors. The Philharmonia Chor Vienna, under the direction of Walter Zeh, will be active in the opera as well as on stage. This mixture is supplemented by stunt action designer Ran Arthur Braun, the exciting stunts integrated into the staging.

The performances of "The Flying Dutch" are planned until August 23 and promise a spectacular experience that will captivate both the audience and the participants. This staging will radiate far beyond the borders of St. Margarethen and further consolidate the significant position of Wagner's works.
